Saving the Eels - Sensors that Measure Migration Patterns

Thousands of eels migrate down European rivers every year on their way to breeding grounds in the Atlantic. In the last few decades, increasing numbers of them have been killed or injured by hydropower plants.

Now scientists in the German state of Hessen have developed a system for predicting the erratic migratory patterns of the animals. It allows them to turn off the dangerous turbines just in time to save the migrating eels from harm.
