Tiger Woods has been named as one of the vice-captains for the United States Ryder Cup team, a side which will be captained by Davis Love III.

Woods, a 14-time major winner, is still struggling with a back problem that has forced him to undergo two surgeries over the last two months. The 39-year-old's last major win was in 2008 at the US Open and featured at the 2012 Ryder Cup with his side captained by Love.

The US team, who will compete on home soil in Chaska, Minnesota, have lost the Ryder Cup eight of the last 10 times against Europe.

"These three guys, joining Tom Lehman, will send a message to our team that we are really serious about this Ryder Cup," said Love. "We are ahead of the game this time and it lets potential team members know that we are going to do whatever it takes to put them in the best position to win in 2016."

The Ryder Cup will be held from September 30 to October 2, 2016.
