The Irish discount airline Ryanair announced on Monday that it would begin serving the Niederrhein Airport in western Germany near the Dutch border. In recent months, Ryanair has been seeking to expand its service in Germany. The company would not reveal when the new service will begin, but it expects to make an announcement on Wednesday. The company faces stiff competition in Germany from upstart budget carriers like Hapag-Lloyd Express and German Wings, which operate from the nearby Cologne/Bonn Airport.
