Russia's foreign minister says his country and the US do see eye-to-eye on which targets to take out in Syria. Sergei Lavrov's announcement comes after Washington expressed concern that Russian jets were attacking not just IS.
The Russian government estimates that more than 100,000 civilians have evacuated besieged eastern Ghouta in the past month. The Syrian army is close to gaining full control of the rebel-held enclave.
A war monitor said Russian warplanes hit a school basement in eastern Ghouta, killing at least 15 children. In New York, the UN human rights chief was blocked from addressing the Security Council on the carnage in Syria.
US Ambassador Nikki Haley has said the US remains "prepared to act" to end chemical attacks and "inhuman suffering" in Syria. She also circulated a draft UN ceasefire resolution to replace an earlier "failed" truce.
Government forces have launched a brutal offensive to consolidate territory on the outskirts of Damascus. Warplanes have struck rebel-held areas, killing at least 30 civilians attempting to flee, according to a monitor.
