Russia's foreign minister says his country and the US do see eye-to-eye on which targets to take out in Syria. Sergei Lavrov's announcement comes after Washington expressed concern that Russian jets were attacking not just IS.
The US-led coalition in Syria tried to "impede" Russian warplanes from bombing "Islamic State" (IS) militia, the Russian Defense Ministry said. It also accused Washington of allowing the jihadists to regroup in Iraq.
Syrian ground troops have been battling to take back the last urban area held by "Islamic State" (IS). Airstrikes and artillery have reportedly killed dozens.
Russia used its veto twice in 24 hours to deny a new mandate to the UN team looking into chemical weapon attacks in Syria. Moscow said it would not extend the mandate of the probe without fixing its "fundamental flaws."
Russia has blocked a US-drafted resolution to renew a mandate of the body investigating the use of chemical weapons in Syria. A rival, Russian-made motion was also blocked, leaving the future of the probe in question.
