They're a world of highland mosses and moors, lagoons and lakes. Páramo ecosystems are unique in the world, and they're the source of clean water for Colombia’s capital, Bogotá. But these ecosystems in the upper Andes are endangered.
A cruise boat laden with 170 people has sunk in a popular tourist area of Colombia. Videos showed the boat rocking back and forth as dozens of vessels plucked survivors from the water.
With more of the world now living in urban as opposed to rural areas, the need for sustainable infrastructure has never been greater. Some cities are rising to the challenge in interesting ways.
