The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) award was given to Senger at the beginning of March at the ABU Symposium in recognition of his commitment and long-time contribution to the development of the DRM standard. Senger has been the Chairman of the consortium since it was founded in 1998. The DRM Consortium now has more than 100 members from 24 countries. Under his direction, the Consortium (of which Deutsche Welle is a member) developed the digital shortwave standard Digital Radio Mondiale, also known as DRM.
