The US and South Korea are conducting joint war games while diplomats discuss what to do about Pyongyang's nuclear program. Thus far, Donald Trump's behavior has made Washington's North Korea policy hard to decipher.
After threats from President Trump aimed at North Korea, US Secretary of State Tillerson said he was told to continue working to calming the crisis. He said he'll aim for a peaceful solution "until the first bomb drops."
Pyongyang said it wants a nuclear-free world, but a nuclear war might still start due to an "extreme and direct" US threat. Washington has separately hinted that it could be open to direct talks with the pariah regime.
