Anti-government protesters continue to face down police in Kyiv and rioting has spread to much of the country.
Supported by former Ukrainian leader Yulia Tymoshenko and others, Saakashvili has pushed his way from Poland into Ukraine in a bid to regain his citizenship. But he faces an extradition request from Georgia.
All of Ukraine, minus Crimea, has been declared a new state by Donetsk separatists in the east. Their new nation of 'Malorossiya' has a flag and a map. Germany has condemned it as "completely unacceptable."
Ukraine's military says nine soldiers have died in clashes with Russia-backed rebels in the east of the country. The violence follows a separatist announcement of a plan to form a new state called Little Russia.
A joint project by the Beethovenfest Bonn and Deutsche Welle aims to create close cultural ties between Germany and Ukraine. Judging from the rehearsals, it seems to be quite successful at doing so.
