Profile of a Humboldt Fellow: Computer Linguist Abdelhadi Soudi from Morocco

Abdelhadi Soudi wants to improve communication for people with hearing loss. The Moroccan professor has developed a computer program to help the deaf learn to read and write.

The use of sign language is not widespread in Morocco. Educational provision is poor. Soudi, who heads the Center for Language and Communication in Rabat, has worked together with German researchers. As a fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, he has visited Germany several times over the last ten years. It’s important to him that both sides benefit from the cooperation. In Europe, too, the situation of deaf people could be improved.
