Tourism is booming in Portugal's capital Lisbon, and many landlords are using web portals to make easy money. Long-established tenants are at a disadvantage, and feel the authorities have left them in the lurch.
At least 41 people have been killed in devastating wild fires that swept across parts of Portugal and Spain. Politicians and residents of towns hit by the deadly fires have blamed Lisbon for the soaring death toll.
Germany has a booming economy but most Germans are not particularly wealthy. Hans-Böckler-Stiftung says that the danger of poverty in Germany is comparatively high and measures should be taken to avoid a crisis.
Brits again topped the list of foreign visitors to the country, followed by Germans, Spaniards and French. Portugal unveiled plans for a second international airport for Lisbon to cope with record numbers of visitors.
