Pope John Paul II, who the Vatican said would be discharged from hospital on Thursday, will travel to Germany as planned for the World Youth Day (WYD) celebrations in Cologne next August, WYD spokesman Matthias Kopp said. "The appointment is officially being maintained, according to the Vatican," Kopp said, shortly after the Vatican announced the 84-year-old pontiff would be returning to the Vatican. Currently, the pope is scheduled to arrive in Cologne on Aug. 18. He then would attend the night vigil on Aug. 20 and preside over the event's closing mass the following day.
