Discover Germany is celebrating 25 years of German unification by visiting all 16 federal states. This time we’re going to Schleswig-Holstein.
This state is all about the seas - the Baltic and the North Sea - and you'll find a maritime influence all over. The fabulous beaches, islands and port towns are reason enough to visit Schleswig-Holstein.
People crossing into Denmark from Germany will now be greeted with the sight of armed soldiers. And a new European Union proposal means border controls could be extended.
Germany from above: The 98 km long Kiel Canal connects the River Elbe and the Baltic Sea in Schleswig-Holstein.
Travel destinations are Munich, Heringsdorf, the Rhön mountains and Lübeck.
