Olympic Fever Hits Germany, Tickets Almost Sold Out

With just two weeks remaining, Germans are snapping up tickets to the Olympic Games in Athens. Dertour, the chief tour organizer for Germans traveling to the Olympics, reported this week that 48,000 of the allotted 50,000 tickets have already been sold. Events such as swimming, softball, boxing and gymnastics are completely sold out. The trip to the cradle of civilization does not come cheap, however. A week long stay, from Aug. 19 to Aug. 25, at a three star hotel costs €1,124 ($1,355). The news will be encouraging to Athens organizers who earlier this month reported that many of the 5.3 million allotted tickets had yet to be sold.
