China has continued to crack down on protests during the Olympics Games, human rights activists say. The New York-based Human Rights Watch alleges that despite the promise to allow broader freedoms during the event, China has imposed restrictions on foreign journalists and detained activists. Meanwhile, the Chinese state media have reported that the authorities have received at least 77 applications from people wanting to stage demonstrations since the beginning of this month. But none have been approved.
