North Korea has fired four ballistic missiles into the sea off Japan. It has done so before in reaction to annual joint military drills by South Korea and the US. South Korea says these are “routine”, North Korea calls them “preparation for war”.
US President Donald Trump has used his speech in South Korea to warn the North that its weapons program was putting it in "grave danger." Trump was earlier forced to cancel plans to visit the DMZ due to adverse weather.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has welcomed US President Donald Trump's North Korea policy. The two leaders agreed the "era of strategic patience" with North Korea was over and that "all options" were on the table.
Ahead of a visit to Seoul, Jens Stoltenberg has urged UN members to implement sanctions against North Korea. Meanwhile, China and South Korea are to work together to persuade the North to give up its nuclear program.
North Korean hackers have leaked hundreds of South Korean military documents, according to South Korean media. Detailed South Korean-US wartime operational plans were reportedly among those stolen.
