The German Interior Ministry has denied media reports that a German diplomatic convoy that was ambushed in Iraq ten days ago was warned of the dangers of the mission prior to the journey. "There were no specific warnings on this special day for this travel route," a spokesman at the ministry said in Berlin on Monday, adding that in general it was common knowledge that every step in Iraq was dangerous. Two Germans belonging to the elite GSG-9 unit of the German Border Police were allegedly killed in the attack, though their bodies have not been found. German television reported on Monday that an Iraqi resistance group had apologized for the attack on the German convoy, saying the group mistook it to be an American special forces unit.
