What me and the club members have in common with DW: I am a 43 year old unemployed person living in the village named Bomnagar, a microscopic dot in the map of West Bengal state in India. I found DW- Bengali on my short wave radio at the fag-end of 1985 and since then I kept listening to DW-English, Hindi and Bengali everyday until 2011. I listened to your broadcasts to enrich my knowledge about Germany. Each night I felt the pulse of Germany through the waves of DW on my radio. I had the opportunity to get to know and explore my dreamland Germany through the shortwave broadcasts of Deutsche Welle Radio.

Since shortwave broadcasting of DW radio was terminated in October 30, 2011 and you are not on air in our part of the globe anymore, your new enchanting website is a good company for me to explore my dreamland Germany.
Founded on May 3, 1953, DW has today made its radio network available in 30 languages, conveying the voice of Germany to different parts of the globe, and has created a bridge of friendship to people worldwide through both the radio waves and the extensive online services. During these long 59 years, DW has made marked progress in the broadcasting field with its aim to introduce Germany to the world, to introduce the world to Germany, and to report on everything in the world.

27 years ago, when I started listening to your radio broadcasts, I thought that DW was a mirror to reflect Germany. But now I know “My DW” reflects what’s happening in the whole world. I believe My DW is a voice of oppressed nations. The rain drenched farmers, who plough their lands in the remote villages of India, Bangladesh or even Africa, easily keep listening to DW, while netizens easily pick up DW multimedia broadcasting anytime and anywhere. And here lies the enchanting appeal of Deutsche Welle: Today we all feel that we are members of a huge, but close family of DW.

Topics we are most interested in: Social and environment, world culture and politics, sports programs with a humanistic perspective.

What I would like to achieve with our club: Since my teenage years, my heart cries for others, who are unable to rejoice under the stars. As a member of a poor family, I know the burnt of poverty. I see the tears of poor parents for their hapless daughters, who are not able to get married because of the barbaric dowry system, even in the era of internet and globalization.

My heart always aches for poor students, who drop their studies due to financial hardship. I feel ashamed, when I see poor teenagers selling lozenges in trains and buses to earn their breads. That’s why I started providing private tuition to poor students in our village and neighboring areas for free. I want all of our students to be educated with the help of our radio club members. They will be enlightened with a universal and humanistic perspective. In future, they will be a part of DW, which is an independent, trustworthy and credible broadcasting institution on earth.
