Soft drinks and many other canned and bottled goods got more expensive in Germany on Wednesday as a new environmental protection law came into effect. The legislation has been roundly criticized by retailers, who say it will put the damper on profits, but consumers in the recycling-friendly country have offered broad support in polls.
