Canada may not succeed in reducing its reliance on the United States if a free trade deal with the EU fails.
The EU and Mexico have agreed "in principle" to update their 18-year-old trade deal. The move sends a message to the US after President Donald Trump announced a series of protectionist trade measures.
The UN peacekeeping mission in Mali is its deadliest. The Canadian deployment is expected to help relieve German helicopters scheduled to depart from Mali this summer.
Canada will send troops and helicopters to Mali to join a UN peacekeeping mission there, Canadian media have reported. The helicopters are expected to replace a German contingent.
The US will reportedly spare Mexico, Canada and possibly others from tariffs, under national security "carve-outs." The tariff bill will likely be signed on Thursday or Friday and will go into effect two weeks after.
