Police in Slovenia say the first bus full of migrants has arrived at the country's border with Croatia. Migrants heading for western Europe have diverted to that route after Hungary shut its border with Croatia late on Friday.
Austria's Defense Minister has told local media that Vienna could impose controls and deploy troops on its border with Italy. It comes as the UN warns that the influx of migrants into Europe shows little sign of slowing.
The Slovenian military has begun fencing its border with Croatia as it struggles to manage an influx of refugees. Slovenia became a transit country for migrants after Hungary sealed its southern frontier.
Slovenia has passed a bill that allows police to seal the border with Croatia to prevent migrants from entering the country. The nation is on the edge of the Schengen Area of free travel in Europe.
