Notorious Mexican drug lord and head of the Sinaloa Cartel Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman has been captured in a deadly military raid and returned to the same maximum-security prison he escaped from more than five months ago.
Mexican authorities have arrested Zetas drug lord Jose Maria Guizar Valencia. Under his command, the Zetas killed "an untold number of Guatemalan civilians," according to US officials.
The US branch of Rabobank has entered into a plea deal after it was accused of laundering hundreds of millions of dollars for drug traffickers. The settlement was one of the largest in history involving Mexican cartels.
Nearly 30,000 people were killed last year, marking the worst year recorded in Mexico, the interior ministry said. But security analysts have cast doubt on the government figure, saying it's likely much worse.
A US judge has authorized a psychological examination for Joaquin Guzman. Lawyers say El Chapo's mental state is deteriorating in the New York jail where he awaits trial on charges of trafficking from Mexico to the US.
