At the Bavarian CSU’s party convention German Chancellor Angela Merkel reiterated that will be no cap on the number of refugees entering Germany. Though she suggested some changes to refugee policies, CSU hardliners were unimpressed.

The newly appointed interior minister has again caused controversy by calling for tighter internal border controls, just as the EU wants them to be eased. The EU was failing to control the external border, he said.
In the first major speech of her new term, German Chancellor Angela Merkel struck a conciliatory tone on immigration while offering an inclusive message on Islam. "Germany can do it," she said, and "we are all Germany."
A Cabinet shake-up, including the removal of five ministers, has jolted Bavaria under its new premier, Markus Söder. His predecessor, Horst Seehofer, is interior minister in Chancellor Angela Merkel's coalition.
