German airline Lufthansa said Tuesday that the head of its loss-making catering unit, LSG, Hanns Rech, had quit with immediate effect. Rech's duties would be assumed for the time being by LSG's chief financial officer, Walter Gehl, the German flag carrier said in a statement. Lufthansa has embarked on a drastic restructuring of its catering business, under which 8,000 jobs have been axed and non-core activities sold off. The airline has already sold its Chef Solutions, which makes and supplies prepared foods and bakery products for the North American market, and is also looking to sell other activities, such as the airport gastronomy, which operates airport bars and restaurants, and party services divisions.
