Lottery Research – Is there a Formula for Luck?
The probability of guessing six right numbers in the German government lottery is 1 to 14 million - 4 times as high as being struck by lightning.
But that doesn't keep lots of people from playing the lottery week after week. They use elaborate formulas, number systems, and probability calculations in an attempt to influence the goddess of fortune and win the jackpot. Mathematics professor Erhard Behrends of the Free University Berlin has studied whether a clever player can influence his chances of winning.
