For the next six months, Lithuania will hold the EU Council Presidency. Located on the eastern edge Europe, Lithuania wants to use its position as President to improve relations between the EU and other eastern European countries.
Far removed from pay-for-passport schemes for wealthy migrants in Cyprus and Malta, foreigners find a "budget" route into the European Union via Lithuania's depopulated countryside, reports Benas Gerdziunas.
The document is believed to be the only surviving copy of Lithuania's original declaration of independence. The small Baltic country is set to mark 100 years of independence with year-long celebrations.
