The most important ingredient in licorice candy is licorice root, which is known to have antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory benefits. It can also help treat stomach ailments. But too much licorice can lead to hypertension and edema. That's why experts advise limiting licorice consumption to no more than 50 grams a day.
