In English, calling someone a monkey usually means they're uncoordinated and a bit ridiculous. But in German, a varnished monkey ("Lackaffe") is not much better. The Lackaffe is sharply dressed, arrogant and particularly sure of himself - regardless of how monkey-like he may seem to everyone else.
