The aftermath of Kiev's bloodiest night yet; threats from the EU and preparations for more violence
All of Ukraine, minus Crimea, has been declared a new state by Donetsk separatists in the east. Their new nation of 'Malorossiya' has a flag and a map. Germany has condemned it as "completely unacceptable."
Ukraine's military says nine soldiers have died in clashes with Russia-backed rebels in the east of the country. The violence follows a separatist announcement of a plan to form a new state called Little Russia.
The Ukranian ex-president, Viktor Yanukovych is suing against EU sanctions at the European Court of Justice. Even if the verdict falls in his favor, his bank account will remain inaccessible in the near future.
The US Secretary of State has called on Russia to honor the 2015 Minsk accord, which calls for a ceasefire in Ukraine. Petro Poroshenko, Ukraine's president, hailed the visit as a strong showing of Washington's support.
