Kate delivers a baby boy!
A prince has been born and the whole world is watching: Journalists and royal fans had been camping in front of the clinic where Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, delivered her baby. Now everyone is eager to see the boy.
Monarchy lives on
Prince William's wife Kate has given birth to a baby boy in London on Monday (22.07.2013). The royal palace announced both are well. The announcement was made on a signed bulletin posted on an easel in front of Buckingham Palace - the document specified the baby's gender, weight (eight pounds and six ounces - 3.8 kilograms) and time of birth (4:24 p.m local time.).
The wait's over
The UK has been waiting for this for days. People got really excited when Kate went into labor on Monday morning and was brought to St Mary's hospital. Some photographers had been camping in front of the hospital for weeks to secure a good spot for themselves. William was born in that very same clinic in 1982.
'Delighted'
Queen Elizabeth II - the baby's great grandmother - was among the first to hear the news. An official hands over the birth note to a waiting driver to take it to Buckingham Palace. The Queen and other senior members of the royal family were "delighted" with the news. The as-yet unnamed baby is third in line to the throne.
'Enormously proud'
Grandfather Prince Charles was delighted as well: "It is an incredibly special moment for William and Catherine and we [he and his wife Camilla] are so thrilled for them on the birth of their baby boy," he said in a statement. "I am enormously proud and happy to be a grandfather for the first time and we are eagerly looking forward to seeing the baby in the near future."
Waiting on the baby's first picture
Royal fans were thrilled and also relieved when they finally received the good news. But they still have to wait to get a first glimpse of the newborn - at least until the family has left the clinic. They might leave St Mary's hospital on Tuesday.
Royal frenzy
Crowds of royal fans tried to look at the notice formally announcing the birth of a son. "We could not be happier," William said in a short statement. British tabloid newspaper "The Sun" changed its name to "The Son" to honor the newborn.
James or George?
The baby's name hasn’t been revealed yet. British bookmakers have ranked possible names for the child - since he's third in line to the throne, traditional royal names such as George and James were favored. The boy's official title is going to be "Prince of Cambridge".
