A romantic weekend, a drive home and a beautiful song on the radio make up this unforgettable Argentinean love story.
Anneliese and her husband during a trip to northern Argentina at the native village of Iruya near Salta.
At the time my husband and I had just met and we were driving back to Buenos Aries after a romantic weekend at the Villa Gesell resort. We were both a little melancholy that the wonderful few days we shared were coming to an end. We had gotten on the highway and the song "Candilejas" by Julio Iglesias was playing on the radio. Suddenly my husband jerked the steering wheel, quickly pulled off onto the side of the road and kissed me firmly as the song continued playing. He asked me to marry him right there and of course I said yes. That’s how "Candilejas" became our song.
