Julie Delpy, Actress

Known for both her blonde, ethereal beauty and her considerable talent, Julie Delpy (pictured here with actor Ethan Hawke) is one of the most popular French actresses of her generation.

Julie Delpy was born in Paris in 1969. The actress has lived in Los Angeles for the last eleven years.

How would you describe her character?
Strong-willed but with a strong sense of integrity.

Julie Delpy was just five when she trod the boards for the first time. When she was fourteen she was discovered by French director Jean-Luc Godard, who cast her in the movie "Detectives". It was the beginning of her career as a film actress. Her role in "Homo faber", based on the novel by Max Frisch, brought her international recognition in 1991.
Julie Delpy also has plenty of hidden talents - she's directed films and she's a talented musician. She released her debut album in 2003.

Her favourite music is Lou Reed's "Perfect Day". Her favourite book is Hubert Selby's "Last Exit to Brooklyn". Her favourite food is Sashimi, a type of Sushi

What is your greatest happiness?
Friends reunion, and my family - that's what makes me the happiest.

What is your secret passion?
I don't think I have a secret passion. It becomes not secret pretty fast. Maybe politics and activism, maybe that's a secret passion.

What makes a good friend?
I expect my friends to be loyal, trustworthy and funny. I like humour in all my friends. A sense of humour.

Who are you especially grateful to?
My parents. I'm very happy with the way they raised me, very free, always making me very hungry for more, discovering more and learning more. I think that was a great gift they gave me - to make me a very curious person. So I'always be grateful to them.

To whom does she owe an apology?
I really don't think I owe an apolgy to anyone. I've always apolgised to anyone I felt I was doing something wrong to. I've always apologised right away. I'm very fast at that. I've always thought it was bad not to apologise and so it's something I do systematically. Even before I do something bad - even if I haven't done much to a person I usually apologise.

Do you have an unfulfilled dream?
Maybe to direct more films. But that's something I will fulfill eventually - but it's not fulfilled yet. But it will be soon.

What's your most treasured possession?
My cat and my guitar. That's it.
