Burundi is the world's poorest country, according to the German food aid organization Welthungerhilfe. DW reporter Karin Kail visited German and European aid projects working to help the country recover from years of civil war.
Rwanda has struck a sponsorship deal with English soccer club Arsenal for about €34.5 million — a deal that has rubbed many the wrong way since the country receives foreign aid.
Burundi's government and opposition alliance plan to meet at the end of July for talks to end the country's two-year political conflict. As tensions escalate, this goal looks less likely by the day.
