Fabian Jacobs has been a research fellow at the Department of Empirical Cultural Studies and Anthropology of the Sorbian Institute in Bautzen, Germany, since 2008. He defended his dissertation about a Roma community in Transylvania, Romania, at Leipzig University in 2010. Jacobs has participated in numerous networking activities in the field of Romani/Gypsy studies, including recently as a junior instructor at the CEU Summer School in Budapest. Currently he is involved in comparative research on the Sorbian minority, focusing on a community of eight villages in an area devastated by brown coal mining.
