Israel says it is getting set to announce plans next week to build new jewish settlements - at the same time as it frees a third round of Palestinian prisoners.
Israel's army has reported that a Palestinian man plowed his car into a group of people in the occupied West Bank, killing two Israeli soldiers. The motorist fled the scene but was later detained and taken to hospital.
In December, Trump reversed decades of US policy to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu termed the decision "historic" during his meeting with US president on Monday.
In a rare UN speech, Mahmoud Abbas has called for an international mechamism to solve the Israel-Palestine conflict. The Palestinian leader slammed the US, which he said could no longer be the sole peace mediator.
The Guatemalan leader has thanked US President Donald Trump for "leading the way" on Jerusalem. But this wouldn't be the first time the Central American country has maintained an embassy in the holy city.
