Whether it’s in India or Sudan, Haiti, the Middle East or even Europe – slavery is a current global phenomenon. The US journalist Benjamin Skinner spent five years travelling the world researching his book on human trafficking in the 21st century, and interviewed hundreds of people. He came to a nightmarish conclusion: there have never been as many people living in slavery as there are today, exploited and unpaid. An estimated 27 million of them.
