Russia has already blocked over 10,000 internet sites, describing them as propaganda for terrorism or pornography. But pages critical of the Kremlin have also been "deleted".
Russian President Vladimir Putin has held talks with his Syrian counterpart Bashar Assad, the Kremlin has revealed. Assad thanked Russia for its support in "fighting terrorism in Syria."
Once signed by President Vladimir Putin, the law would require foreign-funded media in Russia to register as foreign agents. It comes in response to the US requiring Kremlin-backed media to register as foreign agents.
The leaders of Russia, Turkey and Iran have met in Sochi to discuss strategy in Syria. Meanwhile, some parts of the Syrian opposition forces met in Saudi Arabia ahead of UN-backed peace talks.
The presidents of Russia and the US spoke about the situation in Syria and a coordination of anti-terror efforts in a call that lasted for over an hour. Also on the agenda were the conflict in Ukraine and North Korea.
