International Energy Agency praises efforts to gain greater independence from Russia's energy exports - je 04.09.2008 20

The ongoing political crisis over the Republic of Georgia has once again put the spotlight on Europe's growing dependence on Russian energy supplies. With that in mind, the Paris-based International Energy Agency has been reviewing the EU's energy policies -- and is praising the bloc's efforts to gain greater independence from Russia's energy exports. To this end, the EU is hoping to accelerate the planned Nabucco pipeline, which would bring gas to Europe from central Asia -- via Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, and Hungary.
