Inside Europe: Fiddling with French spelling

When French schoolchildren start the next school year in September, their books will contain simplified spelling. The government has told school textbook publishers they must finally enact a law dreamt up under France’s last socialist president, François Mitterrand, that simplifies the spelling of around two thousand four hundred words.
