India Offers Help to Sri Lankan Civilians

Civilian deaths in Sri Lanka have caused concern across the world. Now, Sri Lanka’s neighbour India has also joined the calls to end the violence. The Indian government is facing strong domestic pressure, especially from its coalition ally, the DMK, the ruling party in the southern state of Tamil Nadu. The state is home to over 60 million Tamils, many of whom sympathise with the Sri Lankan Tamils. Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee has announced that India is willing to help evacuate tens of thousands of civilians trapped in the conflict zone.
