The transport system of the future promulgated by tech investor Elon Musk features a maglev pod speeding through vacuum tubes. Sounds futuristic, but in a test track in the Nevada desert the Hyperloop One XP-1 has reportedly achieved record speeds.
Be it rail or road, plane or boat, there are four main types of transportation humans use to get around. To most traveling any other way seems like a vision from the future, but the future may only be a pod ride away.
A futuristic passenger and freight transportation concept has moved closer to realization after Dubai inks deal with Hyperloop One. The network would propel pods through reduced-pressure tubes at near supersonic speeds.
Technology firm Hyperloop One has successfully tested its futuristic transport system for the first time. The system of tubes and pods for passengers and cargo is powered by electric coils underneath the craft.
Hyperloop Technologies is hosting a two-day "future of transportation" event, promising the first true visions of near-supersonic travel. It's one of Elon Musk's many dreams, after PayPal, Tesla and SpaceX.
