Monika Hoegen was born in 1963 in Cologne, Germany. She has a master’s degree in political science and worked as a journalist and editor for the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger newspaper from 1986-1995. She is now a freelance journalist focusing on development cooperation, globalization, world trade, poverty reduction, environment, human rights and gender. She has undertaken many research trips to developing countries in Asia, Latin America and Africa.
Since 2000: She has done additional work as a moderator and media trainer, also focusing on development and development cooperation. She has completed projects for national and international organizations, such as DW-AKADEMIE, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), UN Millennium Campaign, UNIFEM, OSCE, African Development Bank and others.
