Hanover 96 coach Andreas Bergmann on Tuesday became the sixth Bundesliga coach to be sacked this season.
Hanover 96 has not won a match in seven tries and recorded its third-straight defeat over the weekend with a 3-0 loss to last-place Hertha Berlin. After failing to get off on the right foot after the winter break, the management at Hanover came to the decision to let coach Andreas Bergmann go.
In a statement released on the club's website, sporting director Joerg Schmadtke said the team would attempt to find a short-term replacement as soon as possible.
"After three losses in a row and a negative series of seven games without a win, the management of Hanover 96 no longer felt that Andreas Bergmann was capable keeping the team in the Bundesliga," said Hanover's sporting direction Joerg Schmadtke in a statement on the team's website.
Hanover have struggled to find their form after the suicide of the team's goalkeeper Robert Enke on November 10. Schmadtke praised Bergmann for his leadership as the team coped with Enke's death, but said the decision ultimately came down to concerns that Bergmann would not be able to secure the wins necessary to keep the team from dropping into the second league.
Bergmann joined Hanover 96 in August 2009 two games into the current season as a replacement for Dieter Hecking. In 16 matches, Bergmann led the team to four victories, with the most recent win coming against Cologne on October 31.
