A man in his 70s opened fire in the Parisian suburb of Port Marly on Monday, seriously injuring two people.

A spokeswoman for the prosecutor's office said that the incident was "not a terrorism issue."

Following the shooting, the gunman was holed up in his apartment after police intervention units surrounded the area. Officials said that he then quickly turned himself in.

The two victims are a 57-year-old woman and a 73-year-old man. A source close to the investigation told French news agency AFP that the victims' lives were in the balance.

French broadcaster BFM TV said that the suspected shooter was known to police for previous violent offences.
