Russia has charged five Greenpeace activists with piracy for attempting to scale a Gazprom oil platform in the Arctic Ocean during their protest against oil drilling in the area. They face up to 15 years in prison if the prosecution is successful.
An international tribunal has ruled that Russia must pay millions in damages to the Netherlands for seizing a Greenpeace icebreaker in 2013. Russian officials had also detained activists aboard the Dutch-flagged ship.
