Climb in, announce a destination, lean back and let the car do the driving. That's the vision for autonomous driving. But there are still a few hurdles to overcome before vehicles can hit the road with no hands on the steering wheel.
The transportation of tomorrow will be dominated by driverless cars. The automotive industry has been hard at working hard toward that goal. But there are still a few bumps on the road to volume production. Autonomous driving poses safety risks, especially in crowded urban areas. Future car buyers, too, have to overcome their doubts about the safety of this new technology.
