German Defense Minister Peter Struck is scheduled to return to his post in August, the German Defense Ministry confirmed Wednesday. Struck's spokesman, Norbert Bicher, said that Struck had conveyed the same to Chancellor Gerhard Schröder in a personal meeting. Struck is expected to go on vacation in July after his convalescence. Government spokesman Bela Anda on Tuesday evening denied a report in daily Tagesspiegel, which said the government was looking for a successor to Struck following his illness. The 61-year-old minister was admitted to a Berlin hospital on June 10 after complaining of a dizzy spell. He was released after a week. Struck is currently recovering at home in Lower Saxony.
