Borussia Mönchengladbach confirmed on Tuesday that club captain Tony Jantschke will be out for around three months after undergoing a knee operation.

25-year old Jantschke returned to the Foals' starting lineup on Saturday against Bayer Leverkusen, but was substituted at half-time after sustaining an injury in the 5-0 loss.

The Foals confirmed on Tuesday that Jantschke had suffered a partial tear of his anterior cruciate ligament and also medial miniscus damage in his left knee. The operation, which took place on Tuesday morning in Cologne, was a success.

The defender had started the opening five Bundesliga games of the season for Gladbach, but has since featured in just three league fixtures from the start.
