Germany's top court has ruled that gays in civil partnerships should be allowed to adopt their partner's adopted children. The court said this woud benefit the children concerned. But gays may still not adopt together.
Italy has become the last major Western country to legalize same-sex partnerships as a much-disputed law takes effect. The Catholic Church and several parties have strongly opposed the move.
