Germany is EU's Chief Cheese-Maker

Germany has held on to its reigning position as the European Union's largest cheese producer. According to statistics released by the Central Market and Pricing Reporting Agency (ZMP) in Bonn on Tuesday, 1.85 million tons of cheese were churned out last year Germany-wide, amounting to an increase of 30,000 tons as compared to the previous year. France came in second with a production of 1.67 million tons of cheese, followed by Italy with 985.000 tons. According to the ZMP, the 25 members of the EU had a combined production turnover of almost 7.66 million tons of cheese made from cow's milk.
