Frank Luck led the German biathlon team to a gold medal victory before a home crowd in Oberhof. This victory makes Luck the most successful biathlete of all time, with eleven titles and 20 world championship medals, a crowning achievement in his last season before retiring. "It is unbelievable, I don't think it has really sunk in yet and I feel very moved," he told reporters at the event. Luck first gained international recognition in 1989, when the then 18-year-old won his first medals -- in the sprint and team events -- at the championships in Austria.
